A precise and efficient movement program, Pilates exercise is a non-impact, total body workout that emphasizes stretching and strengthening the core muscles of the torso and spine, hip, shoulders, and extremeties.
The core muscles are trained for stability in both active movement and still positions. The active positions include all movement directions of the spine: flexion (forward), extension (backward), rotation (twist), and lateral flexion (side bend). The still and stable trunk position allows the arms and legs to move freely, relieving strain in the shoulder and hip joints.
Our muscles are like tension wires on a tower, attaching at various angles and heights, they all need to have just the right amount of 'pull' to keep the tower perfectly upright and balanced. Appropriate stretching and strengthening of all the muscles keeps the system working well.
